Me
It isn't easy, living on $81/week, but that is all I have to get by on since my wrongful termination from Securitas Security Services. I had exhausted my unemployment benefits before securing the job with Securitas. I couldn't find any other job and counted myself lucky to have gotten the work when I did.

I did nothing to lose my job. In fact, I went overboard to do my best work. I knew there would be no funds in my unemployment account to sustain me for several months, so I was not trying to do anything to lose my job.

However, I did observe several other people get terminated without just cause in the 90+ days I worked for this sleazy outfit. I had a feeling they were coming for me and they did after I filed a complaint about nepotism and ethnic bias on the internal complaint resolution resource. I filed the report on 18 April and was fired on 21 April. Fortunately, the high court ruled that retaliation firings were a form of discrimination, a violation of civil rights, and that employers executing such tactics could be sued for damages.

As the wheels of justice grind slowly, I'm struggling to get by on $81 a week until this situation is resolved. I reported this company to the Labor Board, Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Better Business Bureau, and the Department of Consumer Affairs.  I also found 49 other reports of abuse by this company on the Rip Off Report website, and posted a report of my own. I don't know what it takes to start a class action lawsuit, but I hope to find out because many of the complaints reflected treatment similar to my own and worse taking place all across the country.

Oof. I feel for ya there kiddo.
I just got canned last month so for a limited time I get a few $ from UI and thats it, unless I can find more work fast. I have 30 applications out since 6/15 and no hopefuls yet.
News last night was not helpful with about 430,000 jobs lost in the States since 1-08.
If anyone is still wondering, You got 3 quarters in a row with unemployment going up each quarter it's a damn recession alright!

Anyway,,,,best wishes. You're not alone!

Mutual Support
Thanks for the support. It is good to know that I'm not alone, but sad to know that the economy is going to hell very quickly and there isn't much we can do about it.

What chaps my hide is the fact that I was fired for having done nothing wrong. I wasn't trying to lose my job because I knew I had exhausted my benefits in the previous 6 months and that there wouldn't be anything to draw from until I had worked at least a year.

I have a disabled son, a mortgage, and a car note to make, all on $81 a week. I'm just trying to hold on as best I can, but I think I'm going to have to start selling some of my goods just to keep up with things. I don't want to part with my instruments and cameras, but I may have to.

Aw well, ttfn.

Best,

VJ

Re: Mutual Support
You're welcome.
The economy has been heading down for the last 20 months and all the pundits have been in denial. Jerks.
NOW it's finally hitting home...hard.
The only thing saving me is that I already lost everything of value except some clothes, my car (old but paid for) and my cats.
I have a few other friends in a similar situation.
I'm seeing lot fewer jobs out there but still plenty I can apply for, it's getting one that's a kicker.

Best of luck on your quest!
I know we can all use some these days.

Re: Mutual Support
You're right. The economy has been in a tailspin for much longer than the experts have been willing to say. I knew something was terribly wrong when I was only being paid $500/month to teach undergraduate courses at a university.

When I couldn't find a job for love nor money after my contract was up and I had actually used up all of my UI benefits, with no hope of extension in sight, I knew the economy was in the toilet, swirling to the right.

Luck and promise in your quest, too. We shall overcome.
