Don't Have a Job

  • Jul. 6th, 2009 at 10:50 AM
Me
I thought I had a job, but the secretary insisted that my application would not be accepted unless every piece of required information was presented. I had resisted filling out the application until all three of the required recommendation letters had come in; only two made it and I had exhausted all my rec letter writing friends. I bowed out of the competition for the job and remain unemployed.

My latest work is trying to get the public health officials to investigate the sources of impulse noise that are being used to terrorize the neighborhood. vjhamilton.info

Got a Job!

Me
Likely only to last for 10 weeks, but I don't care. Got an online teaching gig and I'm really happy to have something academic to do for which I will receive a pittance that is not unemployment.

Been a long, hard year, struggling to make it on $81/week.

Thanks to the Universe for blessing!

I've been away from LJ for a very long time. Kinda lost it over at Twitter! So much has been happening in the world, and so quickly the changes. Specter, Souter, Chrysler, H1N1, earthquake, weather extremes! Good grief!

Haven't crocheted much since my friend was murdered across the street in March. I've definitely got to find a way out of this place, though I do have some neighbors I will miss immensely. The place is too much changed for the worse, with all the gangs, drugs, and guns that seem to be running the place instead of the police and elected officials.

Imagine, a thug coming from the gang house across the street came out of prison with a gang name tattooed on his face! He has absolutely no desire to do anything in the legitimate world, at least that's what his tattoo says to me. No respect for self and definitely none for others. That group hasn't noticed Obama's presidency. They could care less. So much for the role model theory.

The Atlanta Child Murders.  Conclusive evidence was never presented that proved Wayne Williams killed all of those children. There were similar murders before and after the 29 to which he was linked. There was evidence of police misconduct and mishandling of the evidence. I'd really like to know if the Klan was involved, as was conjectured.

I have wanted to make gloves for myself and finally found a pattern that lets me make them in one piece rather than having to add the fingers after making the palm and back. The pattern is a marvel of engineering in thread!

This is a picture of the first pair made. I have completed a second pair because the first pair were snatched away as soon as I made them!

Terror in India

  • Nov. 27th, 2008 at 9:10 AM
Me
In 1997, I traveled to and visited all over the subcontinent. The only place I felt safe was in the Punjab, where I was housed in a military compound. Even there, though, there was evidence of danger and conflict in the Golden Temple of the Sikhs where, in 1984, armed conflict was waged against extremist Sikhs who had taken refuge in the Temple in Amritsar. Indira Ghandi ordered the army to take the Temple by force. She was later killed by her Sikh bodyguards. Read about the Massacre at Amritsar here:
http://www.onwar.com/aced/data/india/india1984a.htm

India has been the site of many armed conflicts for decades, but the current siege, its scope and intensity are very new developments.

On this Thanksgiving, I am grateful that I am not in Mumbai, but very sorry for all of the people suffering in the current conditions of strife. No one should be forced to suffer through such an ordeal.

Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” He is believed to have called it his greatest literary work ever. Can you write a story in six words?

Change, Change

  • Aug. 14th, 2008 at 12:59 PM
Me
I wanted to get out of the house and go to the beach or the desert, but with no money, going to either of those places was out of the question. I settled for moving the truck and pulling the car out so I could drive it because it is three quarters full of gas.

When I tried to start the truck, no go. That didn't make sense because it has gas, all the lights, bells, and whistles were operational. I started to smell gas and opened the door. I tried starting my baby again. No go, but the smell and sound of gas splashing from underneath the vehicle was loud and clear.

Got out, looked underneath and saw that the fuel line was disconnected. I tried to reconnect it, but no go, so I got on the horn and called AAA.

First, I was told that AAA would not tow the truck if it was leaking gasoline and that the fire department had to inspect it and ok it for towing. I then called three fire departments, each of them telling me that they had never heard of such a requirement. Finally, I called AAA back and asked for a tow because my vehicle would not start. Lesson learned? Never give any more information than is required if you want to avoid runaround and needless hassle.

Kilo came and picked us up and deposited us at Champion Chevrolet in Long Beach. They were waiting for me and are now fixing my baby.

Soon, I'll be back on the road again in my truck. I really love my truck. It is a stick and drives very nicely on the highway using cruise control. I have driven stick all my life and never had access to cruise control before.  It is a godsend; I don't have to watch my lead foot anymore. Just set it and guide us through the night.  It doesn't hurt that the truck is still under warranty, either. Having no money is not a hindrance on this day!

I think the fuel line was disconnected by a couple of pit bull puppies that scaled a chain link fence to come into my yard. I'd never seen dogs do that, only the cats. Maybe they learned how by watching the cats. At any rate, when I discovered them in my yard, I invited them out by opening the gate. One pupply took the cue, but the other one stayed hidden under the truck. He came out later and scaled the fence to get out. At least, no person was trying to steal my gasoline!

Fuel to the Spark

  • Aug. 6th, 2008 at 11:34 AM
Me
It occurs to me that everyone has  spark of the Divine within. Many of us have not supplied any fuel to that spark that would make it burst into beautiful, clarifying flame.

More often, it seems, people actively dampen the spark, causing it to come close to perishing for lack of good fuel. It burns low, will flare up with acts and thoughts of goodwill, then burn low again with the liberal application of negativity.

We are not dealing with two confliciting sources of life, only one that we continually abuse and neglect. There is no evil, save that we create ourselves. There is no good, save that we create ourselves. There is only the Divine Spark that seems to burn brightest when we apply the fuels of kindness and goodwill to ourselves and others.

There is, in each of us, the Divine Spark. It is up to each of us to make it flash and burn brightly or to let it ebb to its lowest level while sustaining life, barely.

Seeking Legal Representation

Me
A friend of mine who was victimized by Securitas suggested I contact Gloria Allred's law firm to see if they would handle the case. I gave them a call and sent an email, so I hope to hear from someone soon.

Not content to limit my search to just one law firm, I emailed 13 others. Received a canned response from one, who is on vacation, but have heard nothing from the other 12.

Meanwhile, I crochet on.
